The site consists of several cultivated fields that extend across a prominent limestone ridge, which is situated roughly in the middle of the field. Within the study site, elevation ranges from 373 to 396 m. The depth to limestone bedrock ranges from <0.25 m on ridge tops to >3 m on foot slopes. The soil/limestone interface is pitted and has an irregular topography caused by both minor and major dissolution features.
